In 1956, The Treasure Ball Association was established to support Kirwin High School. Through the consolidation in 1968 establishing O’Connell Catholic High School and again in 2004 establishing O’Connell Consolidated High School, the Treasure Ball Association has continued its support and has become a major annual fundraising event for the school.
The first pageant was held in the Marine Room, now known as the Pleasure Pier. The Moody Civic Center then became the home of the Treasure Ball until 1996. The Grand 1894 Opera House the hosted the event for several years before it was moved to Moody Gardens.
Each year a theme is selected for the pageant, and trains, capes and costumes are designed around that theme. Participants are responsible for the creation of their trains, capes and costumes. For many years this has become a family tradition. Treasure Ball has been fortunate to have 3rd generation participants in recent years. It is a labor of love for the participants, families and volunteers who work with the Treasure Ball Association in their continued support of Catholic Education in Galveston.
